Playground Of Sound are delighted to present Amp Fiddler live feat. a Drummer from Detroit. This is Amp’s newest live project where he collaborates with old friend, collaborator and Mahogany Music label mate Andres aka A Drummer From Detroit who is on live percussion and electronics.
Detroit based Amp Fiddler is a celebrated soul/funk musician who has shared stages and studios with everyone from Prince and George Clinton to Primal Scream and underground Detroit producer Moodyman. Amp also played a pivotal role in bringing Slum Village to global attention, and was a friend and collaborator with their producer, the late J Dilla.
His 2018 album Return Of The Ghetto Fly was met with critical acclaim. It was released on Moodymann’s Mahogani Music with features from Andres, T3, Neco Redd, Louie Vega and Moodymann among others.
In a city full of musical heroes, Andres is one of Detroit’s greatest. Aside from releasing some of the most iconic Detroit house music around since the late ’90s and performing as Slum Village’s DJ, he is also an incredible percussionist and among others has collaborated with Erykah Badu (on her track Didn’t Cha Know).
Andres doesn’t just make house, as his seminal Andres II album and subsequent releases prove, he’s just as adept making hip-hop, downtempo boogie and more. He’s worked with Theo Parrish, Moodymann, J Dilla and more in his time, and recently started a new record label to reissue some of his lost classics.
Their collaborative project includes live performances, with percussion, keys and singing, of some of their standout tracks and new as-yet-unreleased music used for their headline performance at the Mahogany Music night at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival in Sete.
